The living space is typically one of the rooms that is most frequently used in the home and typically has many roles. It can be used to entertain, other times it's a place to relax and read a good book, and other times it's a cozy space to sit and watch TV or complete homework.
It's not surprising that lots of people struggle to get the furniture arrangement in their living rooms to appear and feel perfect. The common mistakes in the design of living rooms could be the reason for the problems! The good thing is -- they can be solved easily.
#1 Don't: Have Too Few Tables
One of the most frequent design mistakes in living rooms is not having enough space at the table for guests to place down an alcoholic beverage or read.
If your space is so tiny that you can't put a table into the space, or you've got a table but it's packed with things that there's not enough space for glasses, it's a problem that needs to be rectified in order for the space you live in to be at ease.
#2 Don't: Create an Uncomfortable Conversation Area
This type of layout for the living room doesn't create a comfortable conversation space. Living rooms are the gathering space in many homes, which is why having a space for people to gather and have a conversation is crucial.
The majority of people prefer to sit in front of the person they're speaking to, and not directly in front of them. A huge sofa with a chaise on the other end is ideal to watch TV, but it's not ideal to encourage conversations.
To create a relaxing seating area, place your chairs and sofa in a row so that the people naturally face one another.
#3 Don't: Use The Wrong-Sized Area Rug
Another of our favorite design mistakes for living rooms includes using the incorrect area rug. A rug in the area is an excellent method to bring the furniture together. If it's not the right size or isn't positioned correctly, it could cause the room to appear uneven, and the furniture feels uncomfortable.
It's really annoying to have an armchair or table with three feet on the floor and one-off. Each time your seat is sat down on, the chair shakes and makes you realize that it's not level! So you'll end up wiping up the paper towel to level it (like you'd do when it occurs in the restaurant).
Select an area rug that's large enough for furniture to fit by following these guidelines:
The sofa or chair legs should be either all placed on or completely off the rug, or have the front legs placed on the rug. Be aware that if you select the "legs off of the floor," the rug must extend all the way to the edges of the chair's legs. It looks odd to have a tiny rug on the floor, with the chair sitting a few feet from the floor.
Every table leg should be placed on the floor (table surfaces can be less accommodating of being tilted than sofas and chairs).
The furniture arrangement should be placed in a central position on your rug, making your room appear at ease.
To stop people from falling, areas of the carpet must not extend into a path that is used by people to move around the space.
