Window treatments can bring together a space. We like to think of them as the jewel of the room. Roman shades are great for spaces that don't need drapery touching the ground, such as bathrooms, kitchens, or laundry rooms. Roman shades can also be used in places where furniture is close to the walls, such as a bed or chair right next to the window. Drapery panels and curtains can make rooms feel larger and more connected, especially if they have high ceilings. Plantation shutters are a common choice, but we don't recommend them. They can block out natural sunlight, which can make a room feel brighter and more open.
There are common mistakes when hanging drapery. The drapery's height and the curtain rod should not be exactly the same width as your window. Your curtain rod should be hung a few inches higher than your window's top, and the drapery should extend beyond your windows. Instead of hanging too high or sagging on the ground, your drapery should touch the floor.
How about adding a new light fixture to your space? A pendant or chandelier should be at least 36 inches from the top of your dining room table. You can adjust the height to suit your needs. However, it should not be lower than 33 inches above the tabletop. This will allow you to see the people sitting at the table. You should place kitchen island pendants 36 to 42 inches from the countertop. The light fixture should be positioned at 7 feet above the ground for open spaces such as living rooms, bedrooms, and entryways. You can adjust your lighting to suit higher ceilings if necessary.
One of the best ways to update your space is to change the hardware on your cabinets, drawers, and furniture. Because the holes and screws for single knob handles are standard-sized, they are simple to replace. You will simply need to remove the knob from the hole and then screw in your new knob. You will need to take out your existing hardware and measure the distance between each hole for cabinets and drawers that have pulls. Make sure you measure from the centerline of each hole and not the outside or inside. You will also need to measure the depth of the drawer or cabinet you are using for your measurement.
